An Evening of Art 2005

The Reading Group’s sixth annual Evening of Art fundraiser celebrates children’s literature combined with beautiful art work. The sixth annual Evening of Art chair auction was held on October 6, 2005 at Pages for All Ages Bookstore in Savoy. The event, hosted by WICD’s Maira Ansari, was a tremendous success.

The evening included story telling by Lisa Schwarzentraub, and an art auction of hand painted chairs themed around children’s fairy tales. The auctioneer, Chris Harris, gave a very entertaining and energetic performance as he auctioned off the artwork. The themes of the nine chairs this year included "The Tortoise and the Hare," "Jack and the Beanstalk," "Hansel and Gretel," "Country Mouse and City Mouse,” “A Medley of Fairy Tales," "The Three Little Pigs,” “Anansi the Spider,” “East of the Sun and West of the Moon,” and "Arabian Nights". The evening’s flutist, Rhiannon Jerch, enhanced the whimsical atmosphere with her performance throughout the evening.

Reading group parent, Inger Stole, spoke to the group about how much the Reading Group has helped her daughter and thanked the Reading Group for the positive difference made in her life.

The Reading Group raised over $4,000, which will provide Reading Group scholarships to local children in need.
